Senegal's football authorities have sacked coach Lamine Ndiaye after the national team failed to qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™.The Teranga Lions drew 1-1 with West African neighbours Gambia at home on Saturday, a result which eliminated Senegal from the FIFA World Cup in South Africa and the CAF Africa Cup of Nations earlier the same year.
"The Committee for the Normalisation of Soccer (CNF) has decided to end our relations with Lamine Ndiaye," committee member Baidy Agne told state television late on Monday.
The committee named the team's technical director Amsata Fall as caretaker coach. The CNF was set up earlier this year as the interim national managing authority of the sport after Senegal's poor performance in the 2008 Africa Nations Cup in Ghana, in which the team failed to reach the last eight.
Senegal reached the quarter-finals of the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Asia but failed to qualify for the 2006 finals in Germany, a disappointment which triggered intense criticism of the players and the federation.
After the latest failure, Senegalese soccer commentators and fans are calling for a national conference on the state of the sport in the country.
